Free & Unhindered Access To Worship

To: The Premier: The Hon. Steven Marshall, The Chief Public Health Officer: Prof. Nicola Spurrier, The State Coordinator: Commissioner Grant Stevens

From: The Undersigned, Petitioning Church Leaders

Date: 17th, September 2021

Dear Premier Marshall, Professor Spurrier and Commissioner Stevens,

We write this letter in humility, and with the deepest respect for the political leaders, health officials and law enforcement officers of our great State, who serve the people of South Australia faithfully and to the best of their ability.  We are grateful for you, and we pray for you regularly as leaders appointed over us by God Almighty. 1, 2

It has been widely reported in the press that New South Wales businesses and churches may be required to deny access to the unvaccinated.  As Church leaders, we feel duty-bound to inform you of our position regarding possible mandatory discrimination.

For millennia, the Christian Church has opened its doors to all, the lost, the sick, the destitute and sinners of all description.  The New Testament is clear in its teachings on this matter. 3 From time to time, Christians may not agree with Government legislation, health directives, or secular law.  However, where there is no direct conflict with God’s Law as recorded in Scripture, we are bound to “submit [ourselves] to the governing authorities1.  It is our conviction that the mandatory denial of a particular group, or class of person, from freely attending church introduces a conundrum that may bring our allegiance to Christ, and His Gospel, into conflict with our submission to The State.  Though disobedience to a state directive is undesirable, we cannot, in good conscience, and in keeping with our Biblical mandate, discriminate against a particular class of person.  The doors of the Church must be open to all people, regardless of vaccination status, race, religion, gender, or any other discriminating factor.

We, therefore, prayerfully and with utmost humility, must declare our intention not to hinder, or otherwise restrict, any person from worshipping with us. We humbly request that you avoid placing Church leaders and ordinary Christians in a position that causes them to choose allegiance to Christ over their obedience to the law.

Free & Unhindered Access To Worship

Dear Rob

Dear Premier Marshall, Professor Spurrier and Commissioner Stevens,

We write this letter in humility, and with the deepest respect for the political leaders, health officials and law enforcement officers of our great State, who serve the people of South Australia faithfully and to the best of their ability. We are grateful for you, and we pray for you regularly as leaders appointed over us by God Almighty. [1, 2]

[3] From time to time, Christians may not agree with Government legislation, health directives, or secular law. However, where there is no direct conflict with God’s Law as recorded in Scripture, we are bound to “submit [ourselves] to the governing authorities” [1].
