Winning the Culture Wars: A Call to Faith, Family, and Freedom

A rising tide of anti-God activism, anti-family virtue signaling, leftist politics, and Marxist ideology has swept across our culture, threatening the very foundations upon which our faith, families, and freedoms stand. These forces aim not only to marginalize Christian values but also to reshape society into a vision that is hostile to biblical truth, individual liberty, and the sanctity of the family unit. But as believers, we must stand firm and proclaim with conviction: We can, and we must, win the culture wars.

The War on Faith

Secularism has become the dominant narrative in much of Western culture. From courts ruling against religious expression to media platforms promoting ideologies that mock and dismiss Christianity, there’s no doubt that faith in God is under attack. This isn’t simply a passive drift away from belief—it’s an active campaign to undermine the role of God in public life.

The growing wave of anti-God activism seeks to push religion out of the public square, relegating it to a private, hidden sphere. Activists cry “tolerance” while silencing dissenting voices, labeling Christian values as “bigotry.” Yet, history has shown us that without God as the moral compass, societies crumble under the weight of moral relativism and selfish ambition.

The War on the Family

The family is the bedrock of civilization, yet it faces relentless attacks from ideologies that seek to redefine or even dismantle it. Anti-family virtue signaling promotes ideas that undermine parental authority, diminish the role of fathers and mothers, and exalt individualism over the collective good of the household. Radical gender theories, no-fault divorce laws, and the glorification of alternative family structures are not just cultural shifts—they’re ideological weapons designed to destabilize God’s design for the family.

The traditional family unit is not just a preference; it’s a divine institution. When families are strong, communities thrive. But when they are weakened or redefined, society begins to unravel.

Leftist Politics and Marxist Ideology

The rise of leftist politics and Marxist ideology has exacerbated these cultural battles. Under the guise of “equity” and “progress,” these movements aim to redistribute power and wealth, not based on fairness, but on envy and grievance. Marxist thought rejects God, promotes class struggle, and pits groups against one another rather than fostering unity. It thrives on victimhood narratives and rejects the biblical call to personal responsibility and reconciliation.

The church must be alert to the creeping influence of these ideologies, even within our own ranks. Social justice movements that reject biblical justice, government overreach that stifles individual freedom, and policies that disincentivize hard work and family stability are symptoms of a deeper ideological sickness.

Winning the Culture Wars

So, how do we respond? How do we fight back against this onslaught? Here are three foundational principles for engaging in this battle:

  1. Stand Firm in Truth
We must be unshakable in our commitment to biblical truth, even when it’s unpopular or costs us socially, professionally, or politically. Truth is not determined by cultural trends or societal whims—it is grounded in the unchanging Word of God. As Paul exhorts us in Ephesians 6:14, we are to "stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist."
  2. Defend the Family
The family is God’s first institution, established in Genesis. As such, it must be protected against all cultural and political attacks. This means advocating for policies that strengthen parental rights, promote the sanctity of marriage, and support the value of children as gifts from God. It also means living out God’s design for families in our own homes, modeling love, discipline, and faithfulness.
  3. Engage the Political Sphere
Politics is not a dirty word for Christians—it’s a mission field. We are called to be salt and light, and that includes the political realm. Engaging in the public square, lobbying for righteous laws, and holding leaders accountable are all acts of stewardship. As citizens of both heaven and earth, we have a responsibility to influence culture through policies that honor God and uphold human dignity.

A Time for Action

The culture wars we face today are not merely political or social battles—they are spiritual battles. Our faith, our families, and our freedoms are worth fighting for. We must resist the temptation to retreat into apathy or despair, remembering that victory is assured in Christ. As Romans 8:31 reminds us, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Now is the time for Christians to rise up with courage and conviction. We must pray fervently, speak boldly, and act decisively. Together, we can reclaim the cultural ground that has been lost and build a society that honors God, strengthens families, and cherishes freedom.

The culture wars are not unwinnable. But victory requires faithful warriors. Will you stand in the gap? The future of our faith, our families, and our nation depends on it.
